Infection prophylaxis

 

• TBI pts are @ ↑ risk of hospital-aquired infxns (VAP, central line infxns, EVD infxns, etc)

• Recommendations:

  • Early trach to ↓ mech vent days (when benefit > risk)

  • Povidone-iodine oral care not recommended to ↓ VAP

    • May ↑ risk of ARDS

  • Consider antimicrobial-impregnated catheters to prevent catheter-related infxns from EVD
