Anesthesia Considerations 

CSF drainage

 

• EVD in closed position allows for monitoring of ICP; open position allows CSF drainage

• EVD (zeroed @ midbrain) w/ continuous CSF drainage may ↓ ICP burden more effectively than intermittent drainage

• Consider CSF drainage if initial GCS <6 (w/in 12 hours of injury)
