Blood Products 

 

 

  • pRBC: Transfuse only when Hgb <70 g/L, unless there is myocardial ischemia, severe hypoxemia, or acute bleeding 

  • Platelets transfusion thresholds:

    • No bleeding: If < 10,000/mm3

    • High risk of bleeding: If < 20,000/mm3

    • Active bleeding, surgery, or invasive procedures: If < 50,000/mm3

  • FFP: Transfuse only if coagulation abnormality + active bleeding/surgery/invasive procedure

  • Erythropoietin to treat anemia: Not routinely recommended
